Entrance control solutions to make subletting or dividing office floors easy

With the rise of remote work, hot desking, and co-working spaces, the traditional concept of an office floor being used exclusively by one organisation is no longer a given.

Many organisations are looking to reduce their office floor footprint by splitting floor spaces to reduce operating costs. In other cases, organisations are looking to generate additional revenue and reduce their own rent and utility costs by subletting unused space.

Despite the new approach to working, the requirement for appropriate levels of security to allow only authorised personnel access to particular areas remains the same. Organisations seeking to create secure, flexible workspaces face a variety of unique security challenges requiring different approaches. Entrance Control has solutions for them all.

Dividing up individual floors

One floor might house several self-contained office spaces. To safeguard entry to a particular part of the floor or a specific office the EasyGate range of speedgates is the perfect choice. Not only are EasyGates stylish, but they also provide for a smooth, speedy throughfare with solid security credentials.

Entrance Control General Manager Michael Bystram says the EasyGate range is Entrance Control’s most popular product and protects a wide range of Australasian sites – from corporate offices and leisure complexes to parliament buildings.

“We believe there shouldn’t have to be a compromise between maintaining security standards and offering a seamless user experience – that’s why we created the EasyGate range, which has proved to be a great fit for many of our customer’s requirements.”

Securing staircases between different floors

Mezzanine levels within office floors mean that security may be required at the beginning or end of internal staircases.

Entrance Control’s Swing Gate are ideal to restrict access at stair junctions between floors, or for where floors have different internal levels housing different tenants. For points of entry with low foot traffic, a Swing Gate is a good option because its minimal footprint causes less obstruction to the local area, whilst still providing significant gate security.

The slimmed down EasyGate SPT-S is another option for controlling access at the top or bottom of staircases. With a minimal 1.2 m footprint the gate is small enough to fit secure staircase access without being obstructive.

Even within the same company certain teams on adjacent mezzanine floors may have different access levels, requiring a security barrier to divide up working zones. The Swing Gate or EasyGate SPT are the perfect solutions to provide just the right degree of secure separation in these instances too.

If your building doesn’t have mezzanine floors, and each floor is only accessible via elevators or swipe card protected doors existing a shared stairwell, then monitoring access to your floors is simpler. However, you may still want to consider measures to prevent tailgating – instances where an unauthorised person might follow one of your authorised staff members through a stairway door after that have swiped their access card. The Fastlane Door Detective can help.

The Door Detective – an invisible security guard with zero tolerance for tailgating – can easily enhance any door’s security. An infra-red field across the doorway is triggered by any unauthorised individual passing through the door, alerting on site security staff so they can investigate.

The smart system enforces the rule of “one person one card” and is sensitive to the direction of travel, responding differently according to who accesses a particular area from which direction.

Entrance Control General Manager Michael Bystram says there is no need to post a security guard at every point or thoroughfare if you only need them to turn up every now and again – Fastlane Door Detective is the ideal electronic solution.

Temporary installations

If a temporary solution is needed or you may want to expand your team to occupy the full floor again in future, the Ramp LT is worth considering. Ramp LT allows the installation of any Entrance Control gate on a “leave no trace” basis without any damage to the floor surface underneath. A metal cover plate and sturdy substructure protects a self-contained cabling system to support and house the gate pedestal above.

This clever solution means you can choose not only the how and where of your security but also the when – ideal for downsizing without disrupting, especially for organisations which prefer the flexibility of being able to reconfigure their floor layout in future without having to restore the surface back to its original condition.

Entrance Control General Manager Michael Bystram says many organisations value flexibility and the ability to respond to changes to on site staff levels.

“We designed our Ramp LT product to be a super convenient solution for temporary security set ups and we’ve made it compatible with all our gate systems to allow bespoke solutions for non-permanent installations.”

To support the trend of splitting and subletting office floors Entrance Control’s security products can be used to monitor and track employee activity using an organisation’s access control systems. This ensures authorised employees are allowed access to the right place, at the right time, and in the right direction.

“Entrance Control’s access control systems are the perfect solution for securing office floors with multiple tenants. Our products provide a reliable and customisable way to restrict access to specific areas, ensuring each company’s sensitive information and assets remain secure.”
